Mitigation Program

Mitigation Bank One

In 2008, a mitigation bank was created to serve wetland and stream credits needs of south central Kansas. A series of wetland pools were created alongside a deteriorated stream channel. For decades, the site has been constructed, maintained, monitored and protected in accordance with federal regulations regarding the creation of a mitigation bank.

These pictures document the transition from a wheat field in 2008, through construction in the fall, and the creation of a wetland and stream channel in 2009.  The last three pictures reveal a fully functional hydrological wetland system adjacent its well established buffer.
